Paul Mativenga is a Professor in Multi-scale & Sustainable Manufacturing and Vice Dean of Social Responsibility, Equality & Diversity for the Faculty of Science and Engineering. He obtained a PhD and MSc in Manufacturing Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing Systems and Technology, from The University of Liverpool and joined The University of Manchester, formally in UMIST in 2002. As Vice Dean, Paul leads priority areas of research with impact, socially-responsible graduates, engaging our communities, responsible processes and environmental sustainability, across the faculty. Prior to this role, he served as Director of Research in the Department of Mechanical Aerospace and Civil Engineering.
Paul is excited about developing engineering science solutions to tackle the major challenges of resource efficiency and industrial sustainability. His research focuses on developing manufacturing engineering science and exploiting this knowledge for new technology development and understanding how industry can become more economically competitive and environmentally friendly. He is interested in extending this knowledge to environmental sustainability and resource efficiency for Universities as Living Labs.
The University of Manchester plays an important role in generating and transferring new knowledge to help society and businesses to make better and informed decisions when delivering industrial, social, and environmental and policy impact. To do this, Manchester aims to put its people at the centre of this mission, whilst harnessing the potential of its staff as independently evidenced by its Equality and Diversity Awards such as Athena Swan Awards, Juno Champion Awards, Race Equality Charter Mark and Stonewall Mark Index. Paul leads equality and diversity. Paul works with a team of staff including Daniele Atkinson as Manager of Social Responsibility and Dr Sarah Heath as Assistant vice Dean.
