Digital Fabrication

The chief objective of the Manchester Centre for Digital Fabrication is to enable the translation of basic and early stage applied research to higher Technology Readiness levels (TRL) by providing access to printing facilities compatible to those used in industrial production.

Inkjet printing has many applications in novel manufacturing as well as a major industrial presence in graphics printing. The UK is a world leader in both the development and the application of this technology for manufacturing in industry. The University of Manchester Centre for Digital Fabrication enables synergy between the different user communities, resulting in new scientific understanding, encouraging technological development and providing exceptional added value. This relationship will drive progress in addressing many of the problems associated with the development of appropriate inks, their interactions with substrates, subsequent post-processing and feature dimensions and stability which are governed by the same physical principles in quite different application areas.
