School of Natural Sciences Diversity PhD Scholarships

Fully funded PhD scholarships in the School of Natural Sciences for UK, black-heritage students


We are committed to building a diverse community of students and staff that fully reflects the diversity of wider society. We recognise that such diversity benefits all members of our academic community.

To address the imbalances in the representation of our student community, we are pleased to announce the award of two fully funded PhD scholarships for students residing in the UK who are eligible for home fees and who identify as black-heritage (encompassing African, Caribbean, and black-mixed heritage).

Projects are available in any area of research undertaken by academics in the School, across the core disciplines of:

These awards for entry in 2024 / 25 will cover tuition fees and include a minimum annual stipend of £18,622 for a period of three and a half years, subject to satisfactory progress. The scholarships are available for 3.5 year full-time programmes or the equivalent duration part time.

Applicants should have or expect to achieve at least a 2.1 honours degree in the above or related disciplines.

In addition to the scholarship, the School is also funding mentors to provide additional career and pastoral support for the students on the programme.
