Heilbronn Doctoral Partnership (HDP) Studentship

Advance your research career in pure mathematics or theoretical physics

The Heilbronn Doctoral Partnership (HDP) Studentship is a unique opportunity for exceptional researchers to undertake doctoral research in mathematics.

Funded in collaboration with the Heilbronn Institute for Mathematical Research, this studentship supports early-career researchers with a passion for advanced theory and mathematical innovation. You'll join a dynamic postgraduate community in one of the UK's leading departments for research excellence.

About the studentship

This fully funded studentship is open to all nationalities and is available to postgraduates undertaking research in pure mathematics, probability, data science, and quantum information. The studentship includes:

  • Tuition fees (for home students only);
  • Annual maintenance stipend equivalent to UKRI minimum stipend.

This support is available for up to four years.

What you need to do

To be considered for this studentship you must:

  • Hold (or be about to obtain) upper second class honours undergraduate degree (or international equivalent) in pure mathematics, probability, data science, and quantum information or a related discipline.
  • Hold an offer of study at The University of Manchester for a full-time postgraduate research programme in the Department of Mathematics.

Application procedure:

  • Apply for a place on the PhD programme of your choice.
  • Discuss this scholarship with your prospective supervisor. Ask them to propose your application to the department's postgraduate research committee to be considered for funding.
  • The committee will assess your nomination and, if successful, allocate you the funding. Please note that the funding allocation process typically runs between January and May, until funding is exhausted.
