Myths
Myth busting: hear what our students have to say ...
Myth #1: You need to be artistic:
I was interested in studying fashion, but many courses required drawing and design skills, which worried me because I'm not artistic. But the BSc courses at Manchester focus on the business, technology and garment production aspects of the industry, without needing artistic skills - this was the perfect fit for me!
Myth #2: Fashion isn’t an academic subject:
One stereotype I’ve come across is that people don’t think my course is that academic, but it is! We study a variety of business strategies, theories and undertake a lot of analytical work, so we learn many transferrable skills.
Myth #3: You need to do specific A level subjects:
I didn’t come from a science background. I did A levels in Business Studies, Spanish and Psychology and I haven’t struggled with the more scientific or technological side of the course. If you really enjoy fashion and are passionate about it, my advice would be to go for it!
