Supporting talented, black-heritage postgraduate researchers

To address the imbalances in the representation of our student community, we are pleased to announce the award of one fully funded PhD scholarship in the School of Engineering for students residing in the UK who are eligible for home fees and who identify as black-heritage (encompassing African, Caribbean, and black-mixed heritage).
What you'll get
These awards for entry in 2025 / 26 will cover tuition fees and include a minimum annual stipend of £19,237 for a period of three and a half years, subject to satisfactory progress.
The scholarships are available for 3.5-year full-time programmes or the equivalent duration part-time. In addition to the scholarship, the School is also funding mentors to provide additional career and pastoral support for the students on the programme.
What you need to do
You must meet all of the following to apply:
1. Identify as belonging to one of the following ethnic groups:
- Black or Black British – Caribbean
- Black or Black British – African
- Mixed – White and Black Caribbean
- Mixed – White and Black African
- Other Black background
2. Have an offer for a PhD programme, including projects in any area of research undertaken by academics in the School of Engineering, across the core disciplines of:
- Chemical Engineering
- Civil Engineering and Management
- Computer Science
- Electrical and Electronic Engineering
- Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering
3. Applicants should have or expect to achieve at least a 2.1 honours degree in one of the following disciplines (or related disciplines): Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Engineering Project Management, Mechanical Engineering
4. Reside in the UK and be eligible for Home fees
