Support for your next step in mathematical research
The Department of Mathematics at The University of Manchester offers a number of funded PhD scholarships to outstanding candidates.
These awards provide financial support and the opportunity to work with world-leading researchers in one of the UK’s most distinguished mathematics departments.
About the award
This funding is open to all nationalities and is available to postgraduates undertaking research in mathematics. The studentship includes:
- Tuition fees at home or international rate;
- Annual maintenance stipend equivalent to UKRI minimum stipend (for home students only).
This support is available for up to three and a half years and can be held in any of the Department’s research areas.
What you need to do
To be considered for this award you must:
- Hold (or be about to obtain) first or upper second class honours on a four year undergraduate degree (e.g. MMath) in a mathematical subject.
- Hold (or be about to obtain) first or upper second class honours on a three year undergraduate degree (e.g. BSc) and a master's (e.g. MSc) with merit or distinction (or international equivalent), both in a mathematical subject.
- Be applying for a PhD programme at The University of Manchester (full-time or part-time) in the Department of Mathematics.
This support is available for up to three and a half years and can be held in any of the Department’s research areas. This award can be held alongside other awards.
Application procedure:
- Apply for a place on the PhD programme of your choice.
- Discuss this scholarship with your prospective supervisor. Ask them to propose your application to the department's postgraduate research committee to be considered for funding.
- The committee will assess your nomination and, if successful, allocate you the funding. Please note that the funding allocation process typically runs between January and May, until funding is exhausted.
