Pursue doctoral research at the frontier of physics and astronomy
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at The University of Manchester invites applications for funded PhD places through the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC).
This prestigious studentship supports talented researchers working on cutting-edge topics in physics, from particle theory to astronomy and beyond.
About the studentship
This fully funded studentship is open to all nationalities and is available to postgraduates undertaking research in physics and astronomy. The studentship includes:
- Tuition fees at home or international rate;
- Annual maintenance stipend equivalent to UKRI minimum stipend.
This support is available for up to three and a half years and can be held in any of the Department’s research areas.
What you need to do
To be considered for this studentship you must:
- Hold (or be about to obtain) a minimum of a 2i class UK Masters honours degree, or international equivalent, or a First Class Bachelor’s degree with an additional Master’s degree, or international equivalent. Applicants with a First Class Bachelor’s degree, or international equivalent, with proven research experience may also be considered.
- Be applying for a PhD programme at The University of Manchester (full-time or part-time) in the Department of Physics and Astronomy.
Apply for a place on the PhD programme of your choice and specify in your application form that you want to be considered for the ‘STFC Funding’ (funding section).
For Astronomy, once all of your supporting documents have been received prior to the application deadline, your application will be reviewed by supervisors and they will nominate the top three applications for the panel chair to shortlist for interview.
For Physics, once all of your supporting documents have been received prior to the application deadline, the panel chair will review all applications and the panel will support them with shortlisting for interview.
