Why study Fashion Business and Technology?

Make your mark on the fashion industry

Our fashion business and technology courses are academically rigorous and rooted in business theories, marketing principles, and analytical thinking. Unlike traditional art-based fashion design degrees, our courses are Bachelor’s of Science (BSc) and focus on the commercial, technical, and strategic aspects that power the global fashion industry.

With this qualification, you’ll be equipped to shape and lead positive change — improving fashion marketing and management strategies, advancing the fashion innovation, enhancing responsible sourcing, and driving sustainability across the supply chain, preparing you to make a real impact in a more ethical, sustainable and forward-thinking fashion industry.

At Manchester, we're serious about fashion

Explore the industry from a different perspective: blending business, management and marketing theory with the science and technology of garment production.

Our comprehensive and analytical courses prepare the next generation of fashion leaders, innovators and change-makers.

How you’ll learn

Teaching

Teaching is delivered in a variety of ways to ensure students have a rich and well-rounded learning experience. In a typical week you’ll have a mix of in person lectures, small group tutorials, seminars, workshops, lab sessions, as well as some online teaching.

Self study

Outside of your timetabled teaching time, you’ll undertake group work, individual preparatory or set work, as well as any additional reading or research required from lectures.

Peer support

Our Peer-assisted study scheme (PASS) is a fantastic resource for first-year students. You’ll be assigned a PASS mentor who will lead weekly small group sessions with you and their other mentees, to help guide and support you in working through the questions and problems set in that week’s tutorial.

Study options

Tailor your degree

  • Specialise in what inspires you:
Choose from four BSc courses, each with a different focus. All share the same first year, so you gain a grounding in fashion topics and then explore your options before specialising in your second year.
  • Learn from industry experts:
Work on live briefs set by fashion companies and present your ideas to professionals. You can also spend up to 12 months on a placement and graduate with a ‘with Industrial Experience’ degree.
  • Study abroad:
Spend your third year at an English-speaking partner university in France, Sweden, Hong Kong, India or the USA — broadening your global perspective before returning for your final year.

Careers
