Dean’s Doctoral Scholarship

Eligibility criteria

In order to be considered for this scholarship, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Hold an unconditional offer for a PhD programme starting in academic year 2022/23;
  • Hold (or be about to obtain) a first class honours undergraduate degree (or international equivalent);
  • Ideally hold a master’s-level qualification at merit or distinction (or international equivalent);
  • Meet English language entry requirements as specified by the department that you are applying to;
  • Have a track record of engaging with research. This may include contributions to publications/articles, promoting their research to a wider audience, prizes for research or project work.

We will only consider candidates who hold a formal offer for a place on one of our PhD programmes.

  • Choose your PhD programme.
  • Specify in the funding section of your PhD application form that you wish to be considered for the Dean’s Doctoral Scholarship.
  • Submit your application.
  • Each Department will be invited to nominate candidates to Faculty – if nominated you will then be invited to an interview.

Key dates

  • Faculty first round nomination deadline 18 March 2022.
  • Faculty first round interviews will be held weeks commencing 28 March and 4 April 2022.
  • Faculty second round nomination deadline 27 May 2022, but you should be in contact with the Department at least 2-3 weeks in advance of this as they have internal processes and deadlines to follow.
  • Faculty second round interviews will be held weeks commencing 6 and 13 June.
  • Application deadlines may vary across departments, for specific departmental deadlines please contact the department.
